The Legend coupe had to get a new starter last week from Hon-Man in Tempe, Arizona after the original one lasted 540,428 miles.  About a week ago, I had needed to move the car out of the garage to get access to the attic opening, and it would click but not turn over.  The starter had been acting up for some time so I finally had it taken care of.  Hon-Man’s parking lot was full of other Honda products, but I parked next to a 1993 Legend sedan when I dropped the car off for its service.

Service was $599 parts/labor and included replacement of an inner CV boot that was torn on the driver side axle.  Back on the road now.

My friend Daniel stalked me on Christmas Eve on Loop 202.

For about 10 years now, I’ve been attending an annual Christmas party hosted by my friend Chuck in Phoenix.  This year, he gave me a glass “moose mug” like the style used in the classic film “Christmas Vacation.”

My friend James gave me a very fitting license plate!

I made my way north to my hometown in Utah (~400 mi) in the ILX on Christmas morning.  Weather conditions on my end were vastly different from the ones my stepmom and dad were experiencing.  Here’s a text conversation excerpt:

I stopped for a quick visit at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway at the north end of Las Vegas.  It was only 50 degrees, but looked much warmer!

Taking my brother’s 1968 Chevy II Nova SS 6-speed for a cruise on the day after Christmas:

I drove it about 100 miles, round trip, to & around Mesquite, Nevada

Great sunset lighting overlooking the peaks around Mesquite.  You’ll soon see this car in a feature story in Hemmings Muscle Machines.

Mom even rolled around in it for a bit:

We received a visit from a few friends on Sunday prior to the return drive to Phoenix:  Tyson, Tia, Chandler, Jack

Branson rode 400 miles back with me from St. George to Scottsdale to take delivery of this 1994 Legend coupe from a prior post.

On the morning of 12/28, we pulled it out of the garage and he went on his way!

It was my 34th birthday yesterday, so I went and pulled the NSX out of the garage for a celebratory cruise.

I received a ton of well-wishes from friends & family.  My email inbox overflowed with about 700 Facebook notifications.  Here is a short video capturing some of the day’s highlights.

And, I think that pretty much brings you up to speed!  Hope everyone’s New Year festivities treat them well this weekend.

  1. The ILX has more miles on it than the TSX and its 9 years younger! Unbelievable!!

  2. Looks like you’ve been having quite the holiday season! Happy 150k to the ILX, and happy birthday/happy new year to you 🙂

  3. Wow! Hard to believe the ILX has already reached 150k miles.

  4. Loving the videos, Tyson!

    • Ha, getting my money’s worth out of YouTube this week. Figured it would be fun to start including more video features. I’m glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for being a loyal reader and Happy New Year, Mark!

  5. Always worth the read. 😘

  6. Hi Tyson,

Congratulations that you got hit 150,000 miles your ILX! The video looks awesome, but I want closing captions. Your ILX looks brand new still. Is your ILX have chips on the front bumper and hood? Or not really? I hope you have a wonderful day and Happy New Year! 🙂

    • Hi Josh, thanks for reading. I had a “clear bra” installed on the ILX just a week or two after getting the car, so the front bumper is rock chip free. The headlights are starting to yellow, and the hood has a few little nicks, but overall it’s hard to tell the car has that kind of miles. I do probably need a new windshield soon. Hope you are doing well!

  7. Congratulations on yet another mileage milestone!

  8. Congrats on the 150k hope you had a great B-day, Tyson! Your bro’s Nova: *drool*

    • Woot woot, thanks! The next time we’re in St George, I’ll make sure you get some seat time in the Nova. It’s a wild ride compared to my piddly little 4 cylinder 🙂 happy new year!

  9. Congrats on the 150,000 miles. Wow! Makes me wish I had been able to roll past 100k on my Z28 Camaro that I traded. Who knows, maybe I’ll keep the new one long enough to past 100k. We’ll see!!

I subscribe to Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine – I’ll be looking forward to reading about your brother’s Nova SS. That looks like an awesome machine. The candy paint looks awesome in the sun!!!

I’m envious of your NSX. I own a 2003 AP1 S2000 with only 11,000 miles on the odometer. Love the car but it is the complete opposite from my new SS Camaro.

Finally Tyson – happy birthday. Mine was just 3 weeks ago – I am exactly 20 years older than you!!

    Happy New Year!

    • Hey, thanks for the congrats and for reading this article. I can’t remember how I came across yours in the first place – it might have been a write-up you did on that awesome 11,000-mile S2000. Anyway – congrats once again on your new Camaro and I’ll be looking forward to reading more about it in 2016. Happy New Year – and belated Happy Birthday to you, as well. Take care.

  10. Didn’t you mean to say, you pulled “the red car out?” You know, for us that doesn’t know what that is. Certainly had an active week. That Daniel though, stalker much?! Congrats on 150k – most people don’t even reach that in their life time. Have a Happy New Year!

  11. Congrats on reaching 150,000! The ILX still looks brand new! Looks like you had a good Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

    • Thank you Brendan! The holidays did treat me pretty well. I have one more little trip planned to make the most of this long weekend – heading to Palm Springs this afternoon and back tomorrow (dinner party w/ friends). After that, life settles back into a routine for the most part. Hope your new year shapes up to be a great one.

  12. Not that you care, since you have no idea who I am, but for the first time in about 27 years I am not driving a Honda product! My 2013 Accord was the most uncomfortable car I’ve ever driven; unfortunately Honda didn’t have anything else to offer me. I didn’t like the TLX (too small; too close to being an Accord; too many complaints about the transmission). So for less money than the Accord I got a CPO Lexus ES 350. Yes, it only handles about 85% as good as my Hondas, but in every other way it seems to be a great car. If Honda ever wants to offer a great car like your Legend again, I may be back.

P.S. I officially feel bad: all these comments on this post, and only a few people bothered to wish you a belated Happy Birthday. So here’s my effort to correct this grievous oversight haha: Happy Belated Birthday. Many more.

    • Hey, Jay, thanks for the bday wishes! 34 ain’t feeling too bad so far. Also, sorry to hear you’ve left Honda, but the ES350 is a very nice ride as well. I hope the new year is treating you very well!

  13. Congrats on 150 Tyson! You think you’ll take this one to 500k or trade for something else?

    • Thanks Elliot! I don’t really have aspirations to take this one to 500k. Thinking maybe 250k and then call it good. But I don’t know what I’ll get for daily driver afterward. Maybe put a Legend back in service. How’s your new year treating you?

      • Maybe a TLX? or GS350! Can’t complain so far, planning a mini road trip to AZ late January before school starts up again.

  14. A birthday without cars for Tyson is like a day without oxygen for the rest of us! Sounds like you had a great holiday! Looking forward to more posts on the D.T.5. blog in the new year!!!
